8 Apps that Pay You to Exercise

8 Apps that Pay You to Exercise Let’s face it, sometimes it can be a real challenge to get the recommended 150 minutes of moderate physical activity in every week. From work to running around taking care of the family, it can sometime seem hard to squeeze in a 20 or 30 minute workout. However, there is an ever-expanding crop of mobile apps that will incentivize you or allow you to incentivize yourself to be more physically active.

In other words, these apps will pay you to exercise!  How great is that? And there have been some studies which suggest that incentivizing works. A 2008 Journal of the American Medical Association (“JAMA”) study found those who have a financial incentive to lose weight were almost five times more likely to reach their target than dieters with no money at stake.

Here are a few apps to get you started:

1.  Pact – Pact is an app that uses cash stakes to help you achieve your health goals. Each week, you make a “pact” to eat healthier or exercise more. You set what you’ll pay other members if you don’t reach your goal.  Use the app to track your progress and you get paid when you achieve your goals, by members who don’t.

2. HealthyWage – Healthy Wage is an app that rewards you for losing weight. After you’ve signed up for an account, you can use HealthyWage’s calculator to determine how much your winnings would be based on your weight loss goal. Next you place a monthly monetary bet that you set based on the time you have set to lose the weight and how much you’d like to win. You just have to stay on track and once you meet your goal, you collect winnings.

HealthyWage has been featured on Good Morning America, The Today Show and other national media outlets.

HealthyWage allows you to participate individually or with a team.

3. DietBet – Once you join DietBet  you can choose from games starting soon, or start your own and challenge your friends. To begin you’ll put money in the pot. After four weeks, whoever’s lost 4% of their body weight will split the pot. Before the game starts, you will do a weigh-in that is verified by a DietBet process.

There are three different levels of DietBet:

  • Kickstarter where you are challenged to loose 4% of your body weight in 4 weeks.
  • Transformer where you are challenged to loose 10% of your body weight in 6 months.
  • Maintainer where you are rewarded for keeping your weight off for 12 months.

For the Kickstarter level, the average bet is $30 and winners receive 1.5 to 2x their bet on average. The Transformer and Maintainer levels have set bet amounts.

DietBet has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, US Weekly, the Today Show and other national media outlets.

4. StepBet – Once you sign up, you can join a game that is starting soon. You’ll place a bet (most bets are around $40) on yourself to meet your personalized step goals during every week of the game, and win money if you do. The winners split the pot. Most games last 6 weeks.

5. Wellcoin – Wellcoin is an app that rewards your for hundreds of healthy activities.  You can redeem Wellcoins for goods, services in deals through their rewards store.

6. Achievement – Achievement rewards you for the healthy activities you are already doing.  Simply connect your fitness trackers / apps (they are compatible with over 40) and get rewarded.  You get $10 for every 10,000 points.

7. Walgreens Balance Rewards for Healthy Choices – Connect your fitness trackers to the Walgreens Balance Rewards app and you can earn rewards for activities such as walking/exercising, blood pressure readings, weight check-ins and more.

8. FatBet – FatBet is like the other wager apps that motivate people to lose weight. Once you sign up for FatBet, Set your weight-loss goal, enter dates, and create a FatBet wager. Send others a FatBet challenge. Once the FatBet ends those who reach their goals win and those who don’t pay the FatBet wager.

If you feel like you need a little more motivation to get healthier, I hope you’ll consider these apps. If you have other apps that help incentivize your diet or exercise plan, be sure and share them with us!

15 Money Saving Apps for Christmas Shopping

15 Money Saving Apps for Christmas Shopping There’s no doubt that Santa has made his list and he’s in the process of checking it twice for this Christmas, but how far have you actually gotten in buying all those gifts for friends, coworkers and loved ones?

Check out these free apps to get the best deals this Christmas and even put a little money back in your wallet.

EbatesEbates pays you cash back at more than 2,000 stores. They also include many store coupons and offers so that you can stack your savings. They have a great website with many of the offers and deals there, an app that you can use in-store and a cash back browser extension that will remind you of cash back offers when you are purchasing from a participating online retailer. This is one of my favorite sites. Sign up today and earn $10 after your first purchase! (Read my review of Ebates here.)

Amazon Prime – Amazon Prime is Amazon’s subscription service that it no less than awesome! You sign up for the service which runs around $100 per year. With it, you get free shipping, guaranteed 2 day arrival on most items, access to free movies and TV shows, free AmazonMusic, and so much more. The free shipping during Christmas season makes the subscription a steal. Oh and did I mention you can sign up for a FREE 30 day trial! Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial.

ShopSavvyShopSavvy allows you to scan a barcode of an item and get promotions and prices of that item from retailers locally, so that you can find the best price. You can also price compare with thousands on online retailers as well.

Shopkick – How would you like to earn rewards just by walking into the door at one of your favorite retailers? Shopkick pays you in “kicks” which are reward points just for visiting retailers within its network. You can also earn kicks for making purchases and for scanning the barcodes on certain items in the store. You can cash your kicks in for gift cards for your favorite stores.   (Read my review of Shopkick here.)

MyPointsMyPoints works similarly to Ebates. You can shop online at the more than 2,000 stores in the network and earn points, which you can later cash in for gift cards or a cash payout using Paypal. I prefer to use the website, rather than the app, because it is simpler and there are a lot more features. You can also earn points through completing surveys, by reading email promotions and completing daily polls. (Read my review of MyPoints here.)

OfferUp – The OfferUp app allows you to buy and sell items locally. You can list items using your mobile phone. You know who you are buying from and selling to through reputation and safety features offered through the app. You can also communicate with buyers/sellers securely using the app.

So before you shop online or in-store check out the app or webpage for the best deals! You can also sign up for their emails to get deals delivered to your inbox.

Walmart Savings CatcherWalmart’s Savings Catcher app allows you to scan your Walmart recipet and the app will search all the national retailers in your area for cheaper prices on the items you just purchased. If you paid more at Walmart then the app will refund you the difference, which you can cash out on a gift card. I love this app!

ReceiptPalReceiptPal rewards you for taking photos of your receipts with their app. They use the information in market research and reward you 25 points for every receipt. You can also email them receipts from online purchases you’ve made as well. You can cash out your points for gift cards to use at your favorite stores.

QMee RewardsQMee Rewards has a web browser extension and an app. I prefer the web browser extension. Once you install the web browser extension, QMee pays you for clicking on ads when you are surfing the internet. It seems to work best when you are browsing on popular retail sites (like Amazon), but I’ve also been rewarded when I’ve searched for financial and travel related info as well. You can cash out immediately. There is no minimum.

Geek – Purchase the latest gadgets, electronics, phone accessories, and much more at 50 – 80% off retail prices with Geek.

Cute – Get trending makeup and beauty products at 50-90% OFF retail with Cute. Get the best deals on cosmetics, fragrances, skincare, hair care and other beauty accessories.

Make Extra Money at Treasure Trooper

Treasure Trooper I love it when I discover a new moneymaking opportunity! There’s nothing like finding a new site that allows you to earn cash from doing simple tasks or participating in free offers or surveys.

And I love to share my new finds with you. I’ve been writing about making cash from online sites for quite a while now. If you’ve followed me you know that some of my favorite sites to consistently earn cash are Mintvine and Inboxdollars, Sendearnings and Hits4Pay!

Well this new site, Treasure Trooper, is right up there with them.

Read my review of Mintvine here.

Treasure Trooper provides several opportunities for members to make cash. First of all you get $1 when your register for a free account. Then there are other tasks that you get rewarded for such as linking your Twitter and Facebook accounts. These actions are optional but I’d recommend linking your accounts because every time you share on social media your referral link is included.

One you’ve signed up you can earn from several different ways. You can complete offers for cash. Offers range from free information on a variety of subjects, to trial offers, subscriptions, credit cards and a host of others. Each offer has an upfront beside it that you’ll be paid upon successfully completing it.

Treasure Trooper also offers short paid surveys you can complete and paid studies. The surveys and studies rang in pay from $0.75 to $15 and each one tells you how long it should take you to complete so that you can gage whether the pay is worth your time or not.

Other interesting ways to earn cash at Treasure Trooper are through cash calls, cash video and cash radio. Cash calls offer participants the opportunity to earn cash by speaking with certain advertisers and asking questions about their products or services. Cash video and radio are fairly straightforward. You are rewarded when you watch videos or listen to the radio through the Treasure Trooper site.

You can also earn through downloading mobile apps on your phone, completing daily polls and through other activities.

One of the best things about Treasure Trooper is their robust referral program. You can earn significant cash by referring others to the site. They have four referral levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond. Each level provides significant rewards and bonuses. At the first (Bronze) level you earn 20% of the money that your referrals make and 5% of the money that their referrals make. The site also has great banners and other information to incorporate into your blog or website’s affiliate marketing plans.

I’ve enjoyed earning cash through all the ways that Treasure Trooper has to offer and the site has a low $20 payout threshold too. Try it out and tell us what you think in the comment section below and remember to share your money making sites with us as well!

Paid to Read Email® Offers Several Ways to Earn Cash

Paid to Read Email®

Paid to Read Email®

I love very easy ways to earn extra cash. Even more than that, I love websites that give me multiple ways to easily earn extra cash. That’s why I’m very pleased with a relatively new discovery for me – the website “Paid to Read Email®”.

Paid to Read Email® is an online reward community that has been around since 2005. It reminds me of several of my favorite reward communities that I use on a consistent basis to earn lots of cash – Mintvine, Inboxdollars & SendEarnings.

Read my review of Mintvine here.

The premise is fairly simple. Sign up with a free account and Paid to Read Email® will give you a $3.00 sign up bonus. You’ll begin to receive paid email offers in your email every day. They are simply emails advertising a product or service that you click on to read and you are automatically incentivized with a cash reward. This is anywhere from one to ten cents per email. Some of the emails will advertise additional incentives if you sign up for a service or buy the particular product being advertised.

Check out another great site to earn cash here!

There are currently eight (8) offer categories to choose from: books, electronics, entertainment, family, financial, health, mobile and travel. The offers vary from signing up for book clubs to checking out car insurance rates and much more. Each incentive is posted for each offer and if there are any additional terms they are also presented for each offer. Currently offers are paying anywhere from $0.50 to $8.00 per offer, but this could be even higher because the offers constantly change.

Another way to earn is by completing surveys. Paid to Read Email® has a survey router that notifies you of surveys that best fit your profile. Surveys generally take anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes to complete and the pay ranges from $.50 to $10.00 per survey. They, like offers, are constantly being updated.

Cash back offers on their shopping portal is another way you can earn money using the site. Basically, you visit the shopping tab and online stores are listed with the cash back opportunity. For example, Banana Republic might be offering 5% cash back. You simply click on that offer and it will take you to Banana Republic. Once you make a purchase, your account will be credited with the 5% cash back. This works much like cash back sites like Ebates.

Read my review of Ebates here.

Paid to Read Email® also has a section where you can print out coupons to use when you shop and they have a point section that will allow you to earn points for completing tasks. These points can then be converted into rewards such as Amazon gift cards.

My favorite way to make money from the site is through referring others. You make 15% of referrals’ earnings for completing offers, taking surveys and shopping online – for life.

Once you sign up at Paid to Read Email®, they will provide you a unique referral link you can post on your website, email to your friends or share on social media. Of course, the more referrals you gain the more cash you earn.

Once your earnings reach $15 you can cash out. Commissions are paid via Paypal within three days.

I urge you to get your free account (and free $3) at Paid to Read Email® today. The relatively low required earnings threshold in order to get a payout, combined with a stellar referral program and a variety of EASY ways to earn make this a pretty great site to make some extra cash each month.

What are your favorite sites to earn extra cash? Tell us about them in the comment section below. I’d love to hear from you!

6 Websites to Save Loads of Cash on Christmas Shopping

6 Sites to Save Money Christmas Shopping The Holiday Season us upon us and that means finding those perfect gifts for all your family, friends and coworkers. It can also mean a heavy hit to your wallet. However if you spend a little time on the following websites, you can save a great deal of cash on gifts this year.

1. Blackfriday.com– If you want all the Black Friday deals in one location, then sign up at this site. It’s free and you can even get deals in advance from some of the retailers. There are also great “day of” savings events that the site will alert you too. You can spend a little time on the site, comparison shop and then either hit all the deals in-store or take advantage of online exclusives.

2. Ebates.com– Simply one of my favorite sites, not just during the holidays, but all the time. Sign up for a free account and then take advantage of cash back opportunities of nearly 2,000 retailers when you shop online. Think of stores like Macy’s, Belk, Old Navy and so many more.   Each retailer offers a percentage back on every purchase made (usually between 2% to 10% cash back). So you are earning cash for the shopping that you were going to do anyway. Ebates.com also has any coupon or promotional offers that a particular retailer has active that you can apply at checkout. Also, earn even more money by referring your friends to sign up.

3. PriceGrabber.com – PriceGrabber.com allows you to comparison shop for products from all the major retailers. The site will help you find the absolute lowest price on appliances, electronics and so much more. You can even sign up for regular, exclusive sales specials.

4. Cybermonday.com– CyberMonday.com is a site that showcases major savings opportunities from retailers online. You can use this site all year long, but on the actual Cyber Monday (the Monday after Black Friday), special discounts and hourly savings are offered each year.

5. GiftCardRescue.com– Just don’t know what to get that coworker who already has everything? Many of us would run out and buy a gift card. In fact, according to one study, gift cards have been the number one requested item on holiday wish lists since 2007. But why pay full price for gift cards when you can go to GiftCardRescue.com and find gift cards from your favorite retailers discounted by 5-30% on average? Have an unused gift card for a retailer you don’t shop at? You can sell it on GiftCardRescue.com.

6. Freeshippingday.com – Who doesn’t love free shipping? Shipping can be very expensive, especially during the holidays. Freeshippingday.com organizes all the free shipping offers from major retailers on its site. It gives all the details and thresholds needed to obtain free shipping during the holiday season. Hundreds of retailers are listed.

With minimal effort and just a little time and research, you can use these website to cut down the cost of your Christmas Shopping without cutting any of the quality of gifts.

Recipe: Smoked Paprika Chicken Thighs with Brussels Sprouts

Smoked Paprika Chicken Thighs I love to cook!  It is a great stress reliever, creative outlet and laboratory all in one.

I’ve been considering logging some of my favorite recipes and testing some new ones on this blog for some time and I’ve finally decided to start with this one. Please feel free to share your input and offer modifications.

This Smoked Paprika Chicken Thighs with Brussels Sprouts recipe is a great one-dish meal that is very simple, yet delicious and very healthy.

This dish is very economical, as well, using many ingredients you probably already have around the house.

Recipe:

Prep Time:  15 minutes

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

2 ½ lbs of bone-in, skinless chicken thighs (about 6 medium-sized thighs)

1 lb Brussels sprouts halved

1 lemon, thinly sliced

4 shallots, sliced

4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil , divided

2 cloves of garlic, minced

½ teaspoon ground pepper, divided

¾ teaspoon salt, divided

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 teaspoon dried thyme

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

In a bowl, combine Brussels sprouts, shallots, lemon and two tablespoons of olive oil. Stir with a wooden spoon to ensure ingredients are coated with olive oil.

Spread the Brussels sprout mixture in a large glass baking dish. Season with ¼ teaspoon of salt and pepper.

Preparation of veggies

Heres a photo of the veggies prepped and ready for the chicken. The zesty lemon flavor is a great compliment to the smoky paprika.

Next combine minced garlic, smoked paprika, dried thyme, ½ teaspoon of salt, ¼ teaspoon of pepper and 2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil in a small bowl. Stir all the ingredients together forming a paste for the chicken.

Be sure to use bone-in thighs. They are more flavorful.

Rub the paste all over the chicken thighs with a small spoon.

Nestle the chicken into the Brussel sprouts. (Note: You may very lightly sprinkle the Brussels sprouts with the smoked paprika, if you’d like.)
